CVA is the medical term for a stroke meaning "Cerebral Vascular Accident", “Accident Vasculaire Cérébral” in French, commonly called “attaque” or “congestion cérébrale”.
Stroke is the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. Each year, approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke. There is medication available which can hugely improve the outcome of a stroke called thrombolytic drugs; however the window of opportunity for their effectiveness is very narrow and so prompt detection of a stroke and subsequent medical help is vital for the person affected.
