Russian performance artist nails testicles to pavement to protest ‘police state’ apathy

Pyotr Pavlensky, 29, sat naked with a nail piercing his scrotum outside Lenin's Mausoleum in broad daylight on Police Day.

Artist Pyotr Pavlensky considers his act as an art performance in protest of what he sees as apathy in contemporary Russian society and the possibility such indifference can lead eventually to a police state. The performance coincided with the day when the Interior Ministry honored its service members.
